Well I just finished training with the company I was hired on to. I trained in the MTNs of CO for about four days, leaning a bunch more than I thought I would. Im doing very well with slow speed manuvering as well as backing up in tight spots. Still need to improve, but thats always a goal to improve on something. I was scheduled to come home today, but I was doing well enough that he sent me home for the weekend. Then on Tuesday I will go to Denver where I will take a final drive test ...
Tomorrow is my graduation, per se from trucking school. Over the last few days, we spent more time in the simulators and the trucks and I've greatly improved with shifting and such although I still have a bit to go...but thats to be expected. The last two weeks have been very intense...lots of studying, lots of homework and groupwork and stuff. I've done well on the tests and the final...got a 94% on the final today and then passed (just a pass fail thing) my drive test which consisted of ...
Well, yesterday and today were the same pretty much. Yesterday I started the day by sleeping in because of a schedule issue we had. Then I went in for lunch and then headed out to the simulators. They are pretty interesting. About 90 grand each...screens in front and around you, plus all the gauges you regularly have on a truck. We did a few simulations with weather, obstacles, unexpected things...etc. Then we went outside and went over the pre-trip inspection. For those of you who do...
Today, we finally got to get in the truck and head off on the road. We had some time in the simulators yesterday getting used to the shifting. Our school even has rather large textbooks that accompany their training course so we have lots of homework to do each night, but thats ok. Unfortunately, they had to cram 3 students to one trainer, something which will be brought down to 2-1 fairly quickly. But either way, I was able to get in 3 hours of training. I think its good not just to...
Well I haven't written much lately (not that I do anyways) because I was getting ready to go to a truck driving school with the company I signed on for. They put me on a bus and that was heck just dealing with the ticket. The first ticket was for the wrong town as my departure. I went and called, and got no help. Greyhound actually told me that if I tried to get a ticket from my town to the destination in CA, I would have a 24 hour layover there. HOWEVER, if I started on the trip 100 mil...
I feel bad for my recruiter. Over the past two weeks, I have been going back and forth with my recruiter with the company I signed up with and she has been doing a great job of getting things squared away for me. She has helped tremendously with getting things resolves as well as getting back to me quickly to let me know how things are progressing. One issue arose last Wednesday or so. I got a phone call saying a ticket of mine from NV was cleared in NV, but MN was still report...
So here I am, tryin to get a job. I already have one...pending my passing training and such. My recruiter for the company I am signed on with called me today as she pulled official drivers records. This was about 9am. She called to tell me that NV was taking a while to get back and WY showed up as clear. MN showed my ticket from this past March. MN also showed up as a ticket that was still pending back in NV. So I call NV, NV says my record is clear. I call MN, MN says my recor...
Well I havent posted anything since last week when I got my job offer. Figured I would wait until my physical came and went. And so I sit here with my DOT medical card, meaning I passed. Woke up this morning, went to a place for a drug test, then zipped across town for the DOT physical, which took about a half hour or so. Then ended up doing another drug test. BP was my main concern and that was 120 / 84. No issues there. Im not diabetic as the last test proved so. Didn't ...
Well since we moved out here to western WY, I've looked and applied for teaching jobs. There are very (next to none) few school districts in the area so my teaching opportunities are very limited. I had an interview, but didn't get the job in one district. Thats OK though. I could sub but the pay is less than I need or want (more need), and it would only last until June and who knows if I would be called daily. Anywho...I applied to two national trucking companies this weekend. One ...
Just browsing the news and caught an article about Wednesdays Nationals/ Marlins game in Miami. Said there was only about 400 people in attendance but nothing was mentioned as to why. It said it was an afternoon game so that would account for a smaller attendance, but 400 people? Jeesh. Thats sad. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/09/12/AR2007091201874.html MIAMI, Sept. 12 -- After 4 hours 9 minutes of laboring in the tropical midday heat in a cavernous a...
As you may or may not know, I own a motorcycle. A Honda GL1800 (actually an 05, despite what others may say, lol). Goldwing. I started off riding about 7-8 years ago on a Honda Helix, moved up to a CB100, then a GL1000 Goldwing and finally in 05, my 1800. All that time, I was a member of a Goldwing group called the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. I have been a member ever since. costs about 50 bucks a year and with my membership, Im invited to chapter and district events around t...
When I lived in Fargo, I lived in a garden view place...aka I was half underground. I always wanted to get a birdfeeder and one day I finally broke down and bought one. Basically I bought a cheap plastic kind and it worked. I fed the little buggers most of the time I was there and had to fill up the container about once a day. I hung the feeder from a nail in a support post for the 1st floor residents porch. They didnt know or see it...and it worked slick. When we moved to Vegas, we...
Well I think today Marcie and I agreed on something. The more we move, the longer it takes. And the weird thing is that, each move has been shorter and shorter. We Got the rental truck on Thursday and unfortunatley, didnt do much because we had some friends over (I wanted to get it on Friday but with her friends, we were taking a scenic type drive and were in that neck of the woods to pick up the truck anyways). Friday, I got alot of the bigger stuff into the front of the truck...but ...
Well today we had a rummage sale. Can't really call it a garage sale (thats what I call it back home anyways)...no garage. We tried to get some tables from the school we worked at but they had just waxed the floors and can't get into the gym where they are stored for three days; so we ended up using our own tables. We weren't scheduled to be 'open' until 8 as we were still setting up stuff and everything. Well jeesh, around 7am, people started coming and we kept saying we were not rea...
Sort of like a part 2 to my previous post. Went to the other town today to start cleaning up on the apartment. We went and rented a Rug Doctor wide track and got some carpet cleaner as well as odor remover. There are only 2 bedrooms and a living room, none of which are really that big, but I ran about 10 gallons (or five tanks) of water just on the living room alone...dark, sandy junk each time....holy crap. The place was not cleaned before we moved over there...the previous renters just ...
