Tomorrow is my graduation, per se from trucking school. Over the last few days, we spent more time in the simulators and the trucks and I've greatly improved with shifting and such although I still have a bit to go...but thats to be expected. The last two weeks have been very intense...lots of studying, lots of homework and groupwork and stuff. I've done well on the tests and the final...got a 94% on the final today and then passed (just a pass fail thing) my drive test which consisted of a very thorough pretrip, four point check, and coupling, along iwth a pump down test and backing stuff.

The backing threw me off...I've been backing these 53 foot trailers with a truck and sleeper cab fairly easily over the past few days....nailing it almost every time and rarely needing to do a pull up. But today I messed up somehow and had to do 4 pull ups on one of the three backups...then I had one pull up on the second, and then I nailed the third one which was a full tractor trailer length set up.

Tomorrow Im going to go through all the paperwork for the company now that Im hired on. Then I will find out what will happen as basically Im packing up tonight and tossing everything on the bus tomorrow when we go back to the school. Not sure if a guy from Denver is coming down here, or if they will bus me back home...hmm. Just want to go home and see the wife and furballs.

Im really thankful to get this position, my trainer told me that they have never seen someone from WY down there at this center. The company doesn't even hire out of the state. I will be based out of some other city, but will actually work out of my town (if that makes sense).

The next step is my runing the route I will work for a week or 2 or three and whenever my trainer feels Im doing a good job, they will send me......somewhere to take another company test, and then the CDL test will be done via third party.

Im really glad I went with this company. Every trucking company out there has good and bad points, and I've researched this one quite a bit and they seem to be ok with me and my particular position is a great fit for me as well. We also had quite a few students who got their CDLs from a local trucking school and they seem to feel hands down that this training is much more intense and covers alot more.

One thing that surprised me is that of a class of 24 students, we now have 10 that are graduating. Lost four in the last two days alone.

Oh well, more to come later.

*side note...my former comment on my not blacklisting anyone...forget about it.

If only that made sense.

Plus, I never have deleted comments (despite your insistance that I have)...so right now I can't figure out how to do that, and I have better things to do than put up with your crap as you work at your trinket website.

You crack me up. I find you utterly hilarious. You talk with a professional driver as if your two week school has prepared you for the real world. Perhaps that is the reason you have failed as a teacher. You haven't bothered to learn that you don't know it all.

I am happy for your graduation though. It will make sure that you are driving over a thousand miles from me and my family. Have a fun bus trip home.

Congratulations, good luck!

Since she's informed me that she was going to 'have a talk' with you in regards to having you do the same (blacklist and delete any future responses from me) it was only reasonable for me to assume that this comment...

Well she hasn't talked to me, but since all you seem to bring is pessimism, words of doubt and constant ridicule, I really have no need or desire to see your comments on my threads anymore.

John,
Im not sure who you are talking about. Sabrina no longer drives and the only other comment from a driver is from Mason. I asked him to clarify his thoughts and I don't think he has done so yet. No biggie. It's incredibly easy to sit and assume alot about someone. Just because Sabrina drove (whenever that was) and that Mason is driving right now (I value his input moreso than hers regarding this area)....neither one of them really know what Im going to be doing either. Alot of the things that normally apply to regular Over the road truck drivers does not apply to me. I wont be working with shippers directly because I will get a loaded trailer every day delivered to my truck. I run the same route every day and Im home every day so I won't be sleeping in the truck unless something weather realted pops its head. I won't work with operating centers either because Im very far away from the nearest ones. Even for my training where everyone else in my class is going back to a operating center to take more tests, I will be going to another location instead because of the distance involved.

Its equally easy to sit and read the blogs of others and assume you know it all
Perhaps that is the reason you have failed as a teacher.

when in reality, all you can do is ponder and daydream about my teaching experience, outside of what I have posted on here, much of which is very...censored regarding my experiences from last year. I like how you point the finger at me saying I believe I know it all (when I havent)....while at the same time, you sit there and pretend to know reasons for my 'failure' as a teacher.

I am happy for your graduation though

Ah yes, a veiled congratulations paired with a comment about distance from your family and my bus ride. Im not sure what you do for a living, nor do I care. All I care about is that I have completed my training and now am on the payroll to provide for my family which is paramount over anything else.

Congratulations, good luck!

Thanks

Funny, Ziggy. Mason hasn't contradicted LW, which leads me to believe she knows her stuff.

What they're pointing to here is a larger trend, Ziggy. It doesn't hurt to take some constructive advice now and then (and yes, I have seen LW offer a LOT of constructrive advice, in between the battles).

Im not sure what you do for a living,

I sit upon my ass and collect large checks for things I do not do, in places I have not seen. I work for a living. The difference is the people that I work for like me. In return for their cash, I provide them with a valuable service.

I know you got your feathers ruffled and failed to really understand me so I will try to use small words so you will get it.

You act (on JU) like you know it all. You sit in simulators and behind the wheel in predictable scenarios and think you have it.

I once sat through a two week sales school. I was sitting amongst 40 people who had been selling this sort of service for 10, 20, 30 years or more. I finished the school as the class MVP and I had never sold anything like this before. I was highly regarded by my boss and my sales manager for making them look so good in their choice to hire me. Thing is, it was outside sales. In the environment created for me to learn in I was stellar. In the real world, I sucked.

They might have had you out on the real road with real traffic but don't think they took you into the thick of it. Training is a foundation at best. It will never prepare you for the real world experience.

Honestly, trucking was the worst job I ever had in my life. I never worked so hard for so little return, got lied to so often, put in so many hours, suffered so many deprivations, than when I was a trucker.

Well I agree with this to a point. Trucking is one of those jobs that you either love or hate, there isn't really a middle there.

Granted, Zig's job has some benefits (like a dedicated route) that an OTR driver doesn't, but he really seems to think it's going to be a bed of roses, that he's somehow, with no experience whatsoever, landed the PERFECT truck-driving job.

Well, lol how do I tell someone about my job without sounding like a know it all smartass?
I just trained for the past week with a guy in another state on his route that he runs...same account as mine. Just different state. Same set up, delivery types...etc. Hes down there, Im up here. We started at a certain time, drove for about 3 1/2 hours to our destination and swapped trailers. Dropped a couple (2) boxes off, then go to the next stop, 2 blocks down the road. Circle the block, sightside 90 in and drop off a cage or a couple toats. Repeat throughout the night. The busiest stop is the second to last one in the morning with 2 stops in one....maybe 25 pieces total for that. All together, we unload 40-50 boxes....ALL of which are very light (ie, a big box for a small gasket or something) for the night, swap 10 or so cages and thats it. Return to our starting point and shut down. Mine is set up the same, just different hours, and less stops.

To hear him describe it, it sounds like a position many seasoned drivers would give their eye teeth to have, especially those with families (children) at home that they'd love to see more often than a couple of days per month.

Exactly, but this company does not hire out of WY. Their stuff runs through it on the interstate, but they have no need to hire out of WY at all. In my case, this position was open at the time I applied and the only reason it is in my town is because this is where the freight is transferred, which makes it a starting point.

One has to wonder why the company has to train rookies for these coveted positions, and what their reputation is in the strange but wonderful subculture of trucking.

Well, if you have freight moving from A to C, but it needs to transfer in B, and that stops need to be made from B to C...then you need to hire someone in town B.

Call me negative if you must, Ziggy, I'll admit I do have a negative view of you,

....really? no-shit!

you're a know-it-all smartass who'll never be smart enough to admit that the smartest thing you can do is admit you know NOTHING.

Im sorry that it bothers you so much that I know more about what I do, than you do. Next time I try to work somewhere, Ill ask you for your years of experience in various, many, multiple fields before I take a job.

And call me pessimistic as well. If this particular job was as fan-freakin-tastic as you describe, experienced truckers would be taking the positions. As I've said before, for your sake I hope I'm wrong, but I strongly suspect you've been lied to, and lied to collossaly.

Right, and I guess this is where the 'know it all smart ass' in me is going to come out. Ive run the routes. Ive seen the freight. Ive worked the loads. I know exactly what takes place during the runs. I know when Im driving the truck, what Im doing. I know when Im unloading freight or reloading returns...what Im doing. This particular account is not hard at all. My experience in running the route personally shows me exactly what is going on. Now, unless you know something about my particular job Im forgetting....

How's it going with your trainer, btw? Ya'all getting nice and cozy in the truck? Getting to know each other well? Getting along ok?

Training was good. I started on Monday and just got back home here in WY tonight. Going to finish company testing on Tuesday, and then take my CDL test in WY somewhere....then if all goes well, get a truck assigned to me, pick it up and start working.
We ran lots of MTN driving, got tons of experience there. Im very confident in shifting...just need to make the lower range gears smoother in acceleration. Got a lot of experience with two lane road slow manuvering as we delivered into some very tight spots and I got a good grasp on backing too, nailed his hardest one on the first try. He is very good and very experienced...everything worked out fine.

(hellooooo?)

Been away from the puter for the past week. Plus that and when I got home, I noticed my car (which sat here for 3 weeks) was deliberately keyed on both sides...about five or six foot gash on both doors, both sides. Really pissed me off. That and there is a leak in the apartment that is still not fixed, even after they fixed it. Still leaking and the carpet is infused with stench. Going over to talk to the landlord right now.
on Oct 27, 2007
Ever occur to you that it was someone you know who keyed your car? In your location that would mean what...your trainer or your roomate. Maybe they didn't like you as much as you thought, eh? I mean, very few vandals are going to key an absolute stranger's car.

Man, you surprise me every day Sabrina with not only your attitude, but your absolute assurance that I am who you have made yourself believe what I am, which is so inconcievably far from the truth, its not even funny.

Ok well actually it is funny because you continue to do this and make all sorts of assumptions and don't appear likely to change your ways.

I rode a bus to training in CA. I left the car at the bus station and Marcie picked it up the next night. When she picked it up, she didn't notice any damage, but it could have been done there. Or it could have been done here at the apt. We have had no issues at all with our neighbors, although since you know us better than we do, you will probably make yourself believe we do.

on Oct 29, 2007
And yeah, Ziggy, go on and convince yourself that your car was severely vandalized by a random stranger at the bus station.

For one, I said the car could have been keyed there. I never said I knew where it was keyed.

And that for several weeks, Marcie failed to notice it. And that all your new neighbors think you're just a lovely couple

Apparently, according to you, since we own a car, it is her task to look the car over every day. Despite the fact that in the last year, she has driven the car a grand total of 1 time which was the 2 miles from the greyhound station to the apartment. Since she never drives it, she has no reason to look at it or anything. She just gets in her car and leaves...comes home, gets out and comes inside. I guess we should do what you do and complete a 42 point inspection at least twice a day on a car she never uses.

And how does a keying make "severe vandalizm"? Lol..Christ, all I need is a can of black Glossy Rustoleum and shes fine.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but if someone deliberately damaged my vehicle like that, I'd be asking myself who I might have pissed off, either deliberately or accidentally. You never ask yourself questions like that though, because you are a legend in your own mind, a perfect peach of a fella whom everyone loves, so it would never occur to you that this might not be the case.

The problem here is that you, as always, have this mindset where you think you are right. Disregard the fact that you constantly tell me how all knowing and always right I am; you continue to have this mentality where your assumption of what you have made up to believe about us is true. That doesnt seem to ever change either as you seem set in your ways.

I was going to reply to this but whats the point. You don't even know what kind of place we live in, yet you already ASSume to know how we bother our neighbors...its like you jumped out of a plane without a parachute Sabrina...all you are doing is just reaching for anything you can to help you out. Especially when in the end, you grab onto a rope and smile...not realizing it isn't even tied to anything....But hey "I have a rope!"
