Well I haven't written much lately (not that I do anyways) because I was getting ready to go to a truck driving school with the company I signed on for. They put me on a bus and that was heck just dealing with the ticket. The first ticket was for the wrong town as my departure. I went and called, and got no help. Greyhound actually told me that if I tried to get a ticket from my town to the destination in CA, I would have a 24 hour layover there. HOWEVER, if I started on the trip 100 miles east towards denver, that would work; never mind the fact that the bus is the exact same one that passes my town to get to that other one to the east. OR, I could get a ticket to another town and just stop and get off early, that could work too!
I ended up getting it figured out and hopped on the bus on Thursday. Got to Denver later than planned and the bus I wanted to catch was already full and pulling out. I had to wait there until about 11:30 at night for the next bus. Waited for ever, walked around downtown Denver and then hopped on the next bus, left around 12:20 or so. Got out of Denver to the top of the first range and the driver decided to turn around and get another bus. His guages were fine, he said, but he was getting a red light on one instrument. So we went back to Denver and swapped for another bus. Got back on it and then headed to Grand Junction where we refueled, got the bus cleaned up and we headed off west with a new driver who was with us until Vegas. Got to Vegas around 2 in the afternoon and the driver told us we would reboard that bus in 15-20 minutes to continue west. Not the case. Turns out we were getting on another bus at 5. Got on it, left at six and headed west until I got to my destination city last night, got a ride in a taxi where two guys were talking about their women and I got to my hotel.
Woke up a few hours later, grabbed a breakfast bag of munchie stuff and hopped the shuttle where we went to my training school. Did various paperwork and forms and such and took a prework test. This particular test is created by an ergonomics company and was more challenging than my DOT physical. Only thing I was worried about was my pulse as if it got over 173 (my specified number), I would fail and be kicked out of the program. On many of the tests, my pulse was less than 100, and the highest it got was 112. Got my pulse checked immediately after each of their tests. From there, I finished reading a chapter and we got on the shuttle bringing us back to the hotel where I went to a nearby Quiznos. Not bad for a first day. They will get us in the trucks on Monday (or tuesday) and we will end up spending half the day in simulators and then half in the truck. Then towards the end, we will spend the entire day in the truck.
Well thats all for my first day down here, will report more in a few days. So far so good.
