or, as my cats would say "here birdy!"
When I lived in Fargo, I lived in a garden view place...aka I was half underground. I always wanted to get a birdfeeder and one day I finally broke down and bought one. Basically I bought a cheap plastic kind and it worked. I fed the little buggers most of the time I was there and had to fill up the container about once a day. I hung the feeder from a nail in a support post for the 1st floor residents porch. They didnt know or see it...and it worked slick.
When we moved to Vegas, we had lots of birds and trees and such so I bought another one. I can't remember how I had it set up. Either way, that feeder became a problem. Because not only did the little guys like the food, so did the garbage disposals known as pigeons and some bigger black birds. It got so bad that I was asked to take it off because of the pigeon droppings and such. lol. The guy above me was pissed because of pigeon crap, so I had to stop feeding the birds, all the while he continued to chain smoke and throw his butts down which landed in my porch. figures.
When we lived in MN, we couldnt really have a feeder as we lived in the top half of the house. Thought about jerry rigging something up but figured Id just better not.
In the last town we lived in, in south central WY, I bought a shepards hook and a feeder, but didn't get any hits. Was fairly far away from any amount of trees and I rarely saw birds where we lived.
Out here, I bought a birdfeeder this past weekend and some basic all around all season food and its been a hit. Cleo was excited for about 5 minutes, then went back to sleeping. Hercules remains to be entertained. I have this setup rednecked too...have a bungee cord wrapped around a post on the second floor patio...and from there, I have another bungee hooked up to that and on the other end is hooked up to the feeder.
Getting a bunch of birds, thats for sure. Not sure what kind though. No pigeons thankfully. The only problem I see so far is the uneaten shells and seeds that fall to the cement. Just need to sweep them up once in a while, no biggy.
Now I just need to buy another perch for the cats. I bought a plastic shelving...thing in MN and I use the top shelf for a perch for the cats. Its fairly stury and holds a pillow or blanket or whatever I put on there for them to use. Right now Hercules is sleeping in it...figured it would be nice to get another for Cleo so she can look outside too. I have one of those ladders that can fold into about 20 different ways...was trying to figure out how to fold it so the cats could use that as a perch. Lol...Marcie shot that idea down for some odd reason.
