So, last year was the first year i did my taxes on my own. I ended up going online and using Turbo Tax and it worked out pretty slick and i got my refund pretty quickly. This year, I am using them again and paying a little more so I can get some more options or something. I think Im just going to see what I can get back, and then go to H&R Block or somewhere else to pay less. Anywho..I dont know what I can take off of my taxes, with the overall goal of getting a larger refund back. ...

When I was younger, I attended a Catholic parochial school from K-6. We knew what was appropriate to bring and not to bring to school. One of my teachers had a drawer in her desk...called her June Drawer. The drawer was simple. Bring something to school, she put it in her drawer until June when school got out. Then you could get it back. Working in my ISS room...on a daily basis, I see kids bring stuff just in that room that they are not supposed to bring to school. They try to hi...

Well its simple. I love to cook and I am the chef in the family of Marcie and I. But, of all the things I CAN do, I can't cook a steak. Well I suppose there are many ways to cook a steak: in the pan, George Foreman grill, oven, outdoor grill...etc. I haven't experimented enough to figure out the 'best way' to cook a steak. When I was a teen, I loved experimenting. My mom bought all the food so I didn't lose out if something bombed. One day I wanted to cook a steak for dinner. But ...

So here I am in my room at school, watching over the kids who can't seem to control themselves. They make a mess of this room and from time to time, leave a mess for the custodian to clean up. Just today, I had a student who left decent sized pile of pencil pieces on the floor. He refused to pick it up. I told him its not the custodians job to pick up his crap. Well jeesh, that started a discussion that sort of I can't win. While custodians jobs are to clean things and make the ...

My mom used to make stir fry a lot more when I was younger, but then as I got older...I think the wok reusted beyond hope. I liked it and she made a mean stir fry. Ive been trying to get back into making more of it and just recently for Christmas, I got a Wok from my Dad and some asian cook books from my brother. I've used it about twice a week since I got it...mainly making lunch for work at school or dinner at Wal Mart. Its a regular steel wok...not a teflon coated one, so it has to...

This is sort of a branch off of my post yesterday about student accountability. One thing I have been thinking about is cell phones...well that and student usage of marijuanna. Pretty much, seperate things, but still. One thing I see alot nowadays are cell phones in school. The school I work at has a cell phone policy, in that cell phones are not allowed on campus. Students ignore the policy and bring them anyways, sometimes flat out refusing to turn them over to administration. I...

A bout a month or so, I found a link on the net to a website called Happynews.com Link , and I went to the site. The website was built after a guy got tired of reading all the negative stuff in the news. If you go to any news webpage (cnn, msnbc, drudge, are my top 3 as well as occasionally fox), its all filled with depressing negative stuff. On the news, they often have a weird news of the day clip just to bring something different to the mix. True, there are good, positive stories fr...

Well, talk about short notice...jeesh. I have a second job so Im working during the day and at night most of the time and I dont seem to notice the time flying by. Now Christmas is only a few days away and Im working so much that I dont even notice it or feel excited like I normally do. Normally I wouldnt post something like this on here, but I need some advice quick, lol, since I forgot that in less than 24 hours, we will be on the other side of the state. Hi all, Im not writing nearly as much as I thought...usually when Im at work and have some free time (perks)...I get online and post something (hence my job postings)....but Ive been slacking off. Nothing of importance to write about. But...in my new position as supervisor of.........a room that students are sent to when they misbehave, trying to stay somewhat anonymous on here in a sense; I figured it would be good to present the schools administration with a spreadsheet. W...

Rainbow Foods After my dads store closed…I think I still had the paper route…Im not totally sure. After I graduated from high school, I moved down to Eagan, MN to go to Brown Institute to get a degree in radio and TV broadcasting. Shortly after I moved down there, I got a job at Rainbow foods, the only place I applied to, as a grocery stocker. I started on the cash registers and pretty much stayed there throughout my employment. As a cashier, I had to memorize most of the codes u...

Continuing my articles about the jobs I have worked... The Store Towards the end of my paper carrier days...my Dad opened up a ice cream shop in town. A short background on him. He had planned on going into the Diocese to become a Catholic priest. He then changed his mind for some reason or another and went to college to get a degree in Business. Afterwards, he worked as a salesman for a large international mining equiment manufacturer. After about 15 years, he was let go in ...

So...last week I posted a thread on a situation Im currently in and I ended up talking about some of the jobs I worked about in the past...mainly to show that I do work and do a variety of things. Well that got me to thinking that I could make a series of threads on here on the jobs I have had in the past and where Id like to be in the future. I figured Id make a couple of threads over the next week or whatever and list my jobs and why I worked them...etc. Paper Routes The first...

Hi all, Ok...so a big issue for Marcie and I is our finances. Marcie has the full time job so she is making more than me, by a lot. Im working when I get called, contrary to the "youll be working every day" thing they told me earlier. She makes x amount and is, being the primary money maker, paying most of the bills. I have about 700 bucks of bills a month related to my bike and other bills (bike loans 1 and 2, credit card, college loans, netflix, and bike insurance). Now...I dont...

This just occured to me out of nowhere tonight. I Havent paid too close attention to the blogs to notice if there has been any recent debate into this as far as creation vs evolution. But I had an idea...maybe its been said before too, not sure. Why not let the kids, those who are being taught, choose what they want to learn? This may sound silly, but I remember back a month or so ago, reading about a district where the super / principal had students take part in the interview proce...
