Part 1

So...last week I posted a thread on a situation Im currently in and I ended up talking about some of the jobs I worked about in the past...mainly to show that I do work and do a variety of things.

Well that got me to thinking that I could make a series of threads on here on the jobs I have had in the past and where Id like to be in the future. I figured Id make a couple of threads over the next week or whatever and list my jobs and why I worked them...etc.

Paper Routes

The first job I had was a paper route when I was in my mid teens. I worked for the local paper and delievered it in the afternoons. My mom was always paying for me and stuff and I dont remember how I got to getting a route by myself, but I did because I wanted some more $$. I ended up getting a route down by the local middle school and delivered about.....40-50 papers. I didnt mind it...it was closeby and it was quick. Three blocks north and south and three blocks east and west...but it was probably 6 full city blocks (going around the block). Rather small when I think about it...should have been part of another route as it didnt really take too long to do.

After a half year of that, I switched routes to the one that was directly by my house. this one delivered to about 50 homes and took an hour or so. Thankfully, my mom helped me out alot during the winter time. I cant remember why, but she did help out lots.

After a half year of that, I found out what the Duluth paper paid its carriers, which was about 3 times better than what I was getting paid. So, I quit the local paper and got a route with Duluth. This route was also close by and I delivered to about 70-80 homes across 12 city blocks. It was a much bigger route and I was able to do it in about 60 minutes or so. It wasnt bad. The Sunday paper sucked because it was so huge...they printed and delivered many bundles. Half of the bundles were one half of the paper, the other half was the other half of the paper. That took longer two bundles only lasted for about one block.

I worked that route for about a year or 18 months...cant remember as its been so long.

I didnt mind the routes. The Duluth route allowed me to be out early in the morning and I liked that compared to the afternoon. It felt good going out and taking a walk and getting paid for it.

Most of the customers were pretty nice too. I had one lady however that I remember to this day, she yelled at me because I brought my dog on the route and onto her yard. All I did was go off the sidewalk and deliver to her side door but she threw a fit because I had my 40 lb mini-beagle with me. Jeesh.

The downside of it was that it was everyday except major holidays. If I wanted to go somewhere, Id have to get someone else to do it and that was very hard to find someone to do the route.

Did I like it? Yeah I did. I think it was a good first job and I liked the fact that at the time, it didnt take up too much of my time. Would I do it again? Of course, if I had to. Its not my first choice in a job but it worked and I guess that if I wasnt planning on really going anywhere or had reliable people to do my route while I was gone...then I wouldnt mind doing it. Getting paid to walk around town in the early morning doesnt bother me.
