What's the point if you can get away with driving like a moron?
So I just read on a forum that I belong to that a fellow biker was clocked at going 82 in a 65. I was surprised by his later reply and some replies on the board.
Hmm...maybe I should make a blog post on how people really dont face up to the choices that they make and they trie to swindle their way out of the stupid ones they did make.
Later on...after some replies...this guy said that maybe he will get one of his police friends to make some calls for him so he can get it wiped off. This really bugs me. I really hate the fact that people can drive however fast they want...wherever, and get a ticket; only to hire a lawyer and fight it, only to win. There is no question about it...driving faster than the posted limit is clearly against the law and people choose to do so all the time. Yet, when they get pulled over, they immediately call Lawyer Bob and fight the ticket off their record.
I've heard numerous tales of how people have been pulled over time after time and have been issued ticket after ticket...up to 20 or more...and they fight it and get away with it.
Im not saying there arent any situations where you shouldnt fight it. Maybe you have a good reason. I myself was pulled over on the second day of being in Las Vegas. I was hauling a 1000lb trailer with my 900lb bike on it and the light turned yellow just at that spot where you dotn know if you should go or stay. Well...if I wanted to stay...I would have had to brake extremely hard and I just didnt want to do that with 2000lbs behind my car...so I decided to keep going. Well the light turned red sooner than I thought and wouldnt you know it that a cop was right there. He pulled me over, didnt ask why I did what I did...just took my info and wrote me a ticket for 300 bucks. I find out 2 months later that I could have fought it and brought it down to a parking violation. How in the #$#* can you go from a running red light 300 dollar fine to a 2 buck parking voliation? Its like saying Bin Laden is guilty of blowing up a 5 gallon bucket of water.
I think that if you have a resonable say as to why you can fight it...then maybe you shuold. But if you consistently speed all time and get pulled over...then something is wrong. If you are going 100 in a 75...then you know what you are doing...and you should face the consequences of your actions...not try to weasel out of it.
