at least for a little while
Im sorry for those of you who live in Las Vegas, or somewhere in the middle of the desert....but this might offend...
There is no way, ever that I would consider Las Vegas my home. First off...its in the middle of a barren wasteland of a desert. After you stay in LV for a few months, you realize what kind of city it is. People often move there...but lots of people move out as well, despite the growing size of the city. They are going through teachers there like crazy. They had to hire 10% of their work force over the summer this year..and they didnt have that much growth. But the teacher thing is for another post.
Its the holidays and Marcie and I got our two week break so we drove back to my hometown in Hibbing, Minnesota. We will stay here until Christmas day, and then head back to her hometown by Fargo, ND for a week or so before we head back to LV to start work again on the 3rd of January.
The drive home was about 1500 miles, and it wasnt that bad...much longer than I thought...at least felt like it. I knew we would get into town late Sunday night and actually we got home in the afternoon. The drive home might save sometime since we are going to be already a few hours west...but Im not sure because the only interstate we can take is the same one we took going back home, so we end up going south and east until we can go south and west.
We came into town on Sunday night and the whole town was pitch black dark. The power went out....not just in one section of town...but the entire town and three smaller other towns in the area went down. Turns out, a big ol substation that provides power to this section of the area went kaput, and power was out for about eight hours which made things kind of chilly...but it wasnt that bad overall.
Yesterday, we just vegged and rested and then took a walk with my dog. Marcie managed to fall a few times, must not have been used to the ice yet. ANd before she replies to this...YES I DID GET MY MOMS CAR STUCK IN THE SNOW! Didnt mean to...but I managed to do that on accident, trying to turn around...wasnt even that much snow either...grr.
Today we went to Virginia, MN, and did some shopping around there and came back. Its nice just to be home for the holidays. I dont even care if its not the holidays....I jsut want to be home, back up here. After you have lived up here, I dont know why you would possibly want to live anywhere else. I could see if you didnt like the cold...but I dont know...to me, the cold makes you tough. Its cold...so what? It ranges from -30 to 100 above...so thats 130 degree change in weather year round....compared to Las Vegas where its only a 60 degree range.
I dont know...maybe its just me, but I hear of people left and right moving to AZ, or St. George Utah, or LV, and other towns. They come to get to the warmer weather and to buy or build a home and a place to live. After being down there, I can honestly say that I would never buy or build a home down there. I hear of lots selling....LOTS...which are undeveloped spots of land...lots selling for $400,000. Thats not even considereing the cost of the house to build on it! for $200,000....I can easily own a house on a lake in beautiful northern Minnesota...with trees and wildlife and fresh air, and friendly people.
Well this post is turning into a flame..I guess its just that after coming home...I compare the two, and realize that I will go back...I dont want to, but I have to...but I wil go back....to LV. Not forever...just for now. Im there because of my job, and i need experience...and I will move back to this area soon.
Merry Christmas. If you dont believe in Christ.....I dont care......Merry Christmas....enough with this politically correct Happy Holiday crap.
