Well another day has passed...Marcie and I took our first Sunday ride with my bike group. I belong to the Gold Wing Road Riders Association which is the worlds largest Gold Wing group. I dont really remember how the association is broken up...but there are regions, districts, and chapters. I am a member of Chapter V in the Fargo, ND / Moorhead, MN area. Back home in Hibbing, MN, I was a member of Chapter I. Anywho...I wont get into the details of the group.....at least in this post, haha. As a bike group, we ride...one of the things I like about this group is that we ride alot, as a group, we ride on Wednesdays, Fridays and the second and fourth Sundays of the month...all during the summer, along with special rides such as to Medora, ND or up to the Peace Gardens up in northern ND.
Marcie and I went with the group today, ten bikes all together and went up to Lake George, MN for a local festival they were having. As a resident of Fargo, I live in virtually a flat area...some rolling plains, but basically flat all around. I grew up in Northern Minnesota, and let me tell you....there is nothing in this country like the scenery of the forests and rolling landscapes of MN. After we get into Minnesota fron the ND border about 50 miles.....We hit Detroit Lakes which I always think of as being the border of MN and ND because on one side of DL, you have farm land, and rolling plains, and on the other side is winding, twisting rolling hills with forests. On the way up to Lake George, we took a scenic route and ended up on a highway with lots of twists and turns. For those of you who have never been on a bike, its hard to describe because....in a car...you are just turning. On a bike, you are leaning into the turns, turn after turn, sharp turns, leaning all over...experiencing the wind and environment around you...its an experience. Winding up and down the hills and around the lakes of Minnesota offers a view unlike any other.
Unfortunately, my bike is the oldest one in the group and its seat is not as cushiony as I would like. You get a little saddle sore after a while of riding. But then again, it all depends on the bike and the clothing you are wearing. I also got a little toasty....mmm burnt Flesh! Next week, on Thursday, we will be going to Marshall MN for a tri-state bike rally there, should be pretty fun...long drive, but we will be ready.
