Or focus on the future?
Published on August 19, 2007 By Ziggystyles In Life Journals
Well tonight, actually over the last day or so...Ive been rather torked off to say the least and another bloggers thread that she made, where my wife and I were not allowed to reply...or that if we did, they would be deleted. It started on my wifes blog, things were said, and from there, it moved to the other bloggers blog which turned into as she admitted it, a rant.

To be honest, I actually started a lengthy reply. Couldnt really make it short as there was so much crap to go through and reply to. Then I realized, lots of the stuff I was replying to was:
1. Flat out lies or manipulations of the truth.
2. Stuff that occured over 2 , 2 1/2 years ago.
3. Stuff that I thought was long gone and over with. I certainly havent posted much in the past two years about teaching, yet one thread in particular came back as well as another thread on my comments about disability. Dear Lord...how long will people keep bringing the past up?

But, I found myself replying to it. I had to put up with that junk at the time and defended myself vehimently. Now its back? What the heck, is crap from the past going to keep on being brought up all the time?

As a matter of fact, in one case, something was not only brought back from 2 1/2 years ago, but lies were added onto it as well.

I havent posted for quite a long time on my teaching, but attacks were made on my students, my students parents and how I think children should be raised...even with the accusation made that raising cats constitutes as raising children, lol.. wow.

The problem here is that not only is it false, the bloggers huge following gathers more people onto her side, which happens to be filled with said lies, misinformation, and angst against those who don't see eye-to-eye.

We have been looking for a place to live for three weeks, somethign she has said quite a few times...then on her blog...it shortened by a third to two weeks.

My bike suddenly doubled in price to 30k.
...etc so on and so on.

Accusations and insults were made which were ONLY gathered from what has been read on this blogsite. Same stuff I haven't seriously heard since I was in grade school.

I try to get along with everyone. I like talking to others and having a friendly discussion or debate, even disagreement. But when it turns vile, that is just sad and pointless and gets nobody anywhere, outside of just building up anger. I have a impression in my head of this said blogger based on what she posts, and I honestly do hope that I am wrong. I keep that in mind every time I try to read her blog or her replies. I try not to judge others and would like to meet many of the bloggers on here some time in the future.

The problem with having a huge following is many fold (un-good grammer Im sure). First, lots of people read your blog. I know I have seen one blogger in the top ten boast on another forum on the internet about this very fact. Two, the many readers have lots of respect for said blogger and will take what they say as gospel...without even researching the facts of the situation. Thirdly...facts really aren't needed because of the large following...you don't really have to be right. Lies help alot more than the truth when you are trying to attack someone. Said lies will then gather more people to their side and so on and so on.

I was going to reply, but thought to myself...why? All it will do is either, cause a long debate on here, or cause her to post another rant on her blog...even though she said she was done...and this has happened before with "being done" with us.

If you don't agree with a view, then say so if you want, even defend your stance. If you don't like a blogger for whatever reason turns your crank, then don't read it. But learn when to go on with life and move on.

There is a saying that if we don't learn from the past, we will relieve it in the future. Well to add to that, if we don't stop looking back, we will never be able to look forward.

Do you move on...or live in the past?

Moron. That was Gideon who made the cat remark, not me.

I stand corrected, thanks.

This your way of moving on? Seems counterintuitive.

As to the cat remark: you reminded me, correctly, on another thread, that you are not your wife, ziggy. Your wife did, on several occasions, compare raising a cat to raising children.

As for ME taking the gloves off (not the topic, but related), I explained why. Your wife launched a vicious attack against us and I responded in kind. If that has her bawling her eyes out, eating bonbons, well, good.

At no point, at no time, have you and Marcie modeled the Christian ideal that you seem to expect everyone to adhere to. Be the change you want to see in others, ziggy.

Ziggystyles ( weep )

If you want to discuss your religious ideas, you have to be prepared to have the quaterized and demolished and then go home wipe away the tears and rage and listen to a Bob Dylan album or just take a walk on the beach, for a year or so and come back with a new you.

Aeryck.

ps. Seeing as we are not entirely sure as to what is in the future, and we are busy with the present...what is left.

As soon as that starts, whether by you or someone else - pull back and move on. Blogging is about sensible debate, not mud slinging to cling onto some mythical self respect - the latter cannot be achieved in written debate, dont bother trying. As soon as it gets personal, or anywhere near personal, time to leave that particular debate and watch a movie. Its hardly relevant who has the perception of "winning" or "won". Life does not end because your shown to be wrong, or horror of horrors someone disagrees - the Sun will still rise in the morning.

If you dont like being disagreed with, dont enter a debate, because you are guaranteed someone will not agree with you - if its the majority, well, maybe thats pause for thought, a good thing. Getting personal is a big no no, and it matters not who started it, pull out and leave it - let the other end have the last word and go watch a movie. That way you'll still be talking in the morning. Life's too short to do otherwise.

Do you move on...or live in the past?

You already know the answer to that.

Wrong. Blogging is about precisely what you WANT it to be about. That debate exists as an option in blogging is nice, but to say it is "about debate" is to ignore 99.9% of the blogsphere.

Fair call, I hear where you are coming from.

As long as the debate is not used as a disguise to attack an individual, no matter who started it (I make no reference to this particular dispute, dont know the background). Personal attacks for the sake of them are wrong, no matter the Culture, the effect on sensible discussion is insiduous, and things tend to disolve into farce.

I well take your point about free debate though, and its well made.

Friggen internet crapped out...always does when I post something and then I lose it. grr.

Its easy to point out to Christians when they don't quite meet the standard they try to live up to. Lots of athiests and such are the first to point such out "hey you arent living a Christian lifestyle" when they themselves live a life the way they want, however they want. I don't want others to change...people are who they are. Live your life however it turns your crank as long as you arent a burdon upon others or society. But to constantly have to lower ones self to personal attacks filled with everything except the truth is what seems to happen, more than not. Im also not seeing anyone on that thread or in the last few days at as a stand out Christian. I try to stay away from the personal attacks because I try to draw the line...although thats hard to do when the others resort to anything to get their version of what they want to say, out.

Ah no. My faith will not be squashed or hurt, even demolished by others on here. If it was that weak, I should worry. Also, I do not listen to Mr. Zimmerman as his music is not a style I listen to.

Seeing as we are not entirely sure as to what is in the future, and we are busy with the present...what is left.

The future is left. If you dwell on the past and keep your eyes on there, you won't focus on the future. Sort of like walking down the sidewalk and looking back at a car accident before you run head first into a light pole.

I agree here, but like Gideon said...blogging is what people want it to be about. In theory and an alternate world, it would be about opinions and viewpoints, debate and discussion...etc. And yes that happens on here, but along with that, other things occur such as personal attacks, lies, manipulation of the truth...etc. And to some, it doesn't matter...as long as you can attack someone...all gloves can come off. You can take what they say and use it against them...you can make up all sorts of crap, get mad at them constantly over time and focus on things long ago passed. It doesnt matter...your followers will read, like flies to a light.

Got a feeling your "followers" will diminish pretty quickly in that event tho

"Im also not seeing anyone on that thread or in the last few days at as a stand out Christian."

I'll try harder to be a stand-out Christian next time.

I agree though, that there was not much Christian conduct on that thread, from either side. I'm not going to go back and read it again to see who started it, who said what, whatever, it doesn't matter. Someone has to step up and be the better person, and that's a lot harder than writing a scathing response, especially when you've already thought up a good one and have a great point to make...

my comment wasn't pointed towards you, sorry if I made it sound like that.

My bike suddenly doubled in price to 30k.

If it doubled to 30,000 (you really should leave the zeros there to get the full effect of the size of that number), then it was originally 15,000 dollars?

Is that what I'm getting out of that?

Do you realize what a resounding waste of money that is? Especially for someone on a smaller income. You wouldn't see me laying down 15,000 bucks (that's 1,500,000 mother f***in' pennies, people) for a bike if I was making a anything less than 100,000 dollars a year. And that's only if the house was paid off.

Grow some balls, man, and learn to spend money on things that matter.

Like so many others, you're an embarrassment to our generation.

"my comment wasn't pointed towards you, sorry if I made it sound like that."

I know who it was pointed to, but if I HAD been a stand-out Christian on the thread, you would've said, "Only Jythier acted like a stand-out Christian" instead of nobody. I was being more of a shrink back Christian, after all.

I actually started a lengthy reply.

A couple of thoughts:

"Brevity is the soul of wit."

"Genius simplifies."

I've found you can take the same idea and express it in either a 1000 page novel or a 17 syllable haiku. (Maybe you should take up haiku. Learning to express yourself in such a limited space would be good for you.)

eating bonbons,

Dang, I could use a bonbon....

If you dwell on the past and keep your eyes on there, you won't focus on the future. Sort of like walking down the sidewalk and looking back at a car accident before you run head first into a light pole.

If you look too much to the future, you tend to trip over your own feet. Most religions will tell you the present is the only place. While Jesus said to count the costs before beginning a project, he also admonished to focus on the present day and "take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. "

I was being more of a shrink back Christian, after all.

Is that like those Shrinky-Dink crafts they had when I was a kid? Color them up to be all pretty then watch them shrivel down when heat is applied?
